Reiki vs. Biofield Tuning: What's the Difference?

Both work with your body's energy field, but they go about it very differently. Here's a clear, honest comparison to help you choose.

If you're drawn to energy healing, you've probably run into both Reiki and Biofield Tuning. They can look similar from the outside — a calm room, a relaxed client, a practitioner working with the body's energy — but they're actually quite different practices. Here's an honest comparison to help you understand each one.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy-healing practice in which a practitioner channels universal life-force energy, usually through light touch or hands held just above the body. The intention is to support the flow of energy and encourage the body's natural relaxation and healing response. It's gentle, meditative, and deeply soothing for many people.

What is Biofield Tuning?

Biofield Tuning is a sound-based method that uses tuning forks for healing. The practitioner activates the forks and moves them slowly through the biofield — the energy field around the body — listening for areas of tension and holding the sound there until it settles. Rather than channeling energy, the practitioner uses vibration as a tool to locate and gently resolve stored stress. You can read how it works in more detail on our how it helps page.

The key differences

They're cousins, not twins. Both invite your nervous system to relax — they just knock on the door differently.

What each one feels like

With Reiki, people often describe warmth, tingling, and a floaty, meditative calm. With Biofield Tuning, people describe similar sensations plus the soothing pull of the sound itself — and often a distinct feeling of something "releasing" as a stuck area settles. In both, you stay fully clothed and simply rest.

Which is right for you?

There's no wrong answer — it comes down to what resonates. If you love silence and the sense of being held, Reiki may call to you. If you're drawn to sound, vibration, and a more targeted approach to releasing stored stress, Biofield Tuning may be your fit. And if you're navigating burnout specifically, the structured, layer-by-layer nature of tuning work is why Kelly built it into her practice.
